Legacy electrical panels

So the other day I was contacted by a customer who wanted an EV charger installed for a Tesla and mentioned he had an old Zinsco electrical panel. I remember hearing stories about these panels and decided to look it up and determined it was probably a bad idea to do the work he wanted since the panel was deemed as unsafe. I went by to take a closer look and sure enough it had all the old style breakers that were notorious for not tripping and eventually catching fire. The only thing I could do was to find a way to make this panel safe for him and his family and then think about adding the EV car charger later. We spoke about a panel upgrade but it was not in his budget at this time, so I mentioned there was a retrofit kit that was made by a company called Eaton and I would look up pricing for him. After calling my electrical supplier they had heard of the upgrade kit but couldn't get ahold of it. The only fix was to upgrade the panel it looked like, so I had a quote put together, called the customer back and told him the bad news. By the time he called back he said another electrician had just finished installing the new EV charger for him.
